LEWISTON, Idaho (CBS2) — A 57-year-old Idaho man has died after he went under the water and failed to surface.
The Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to the south side of the Memorial Bridge after a report that a Lewiston man, Wayne Kirtley Jr., went under the water.
Crews searched throughout the night on Thursday with no success. On Friday morning, however, the dive team found Kirtley's body about 50 yards from the shoreline in about 14 feet of water.
"We would like to remind the public to use caution when swimming the rivers in the area," the sheriff's office said. "The waters around the region are still high with mountain snow runoff and still cold."
