1. Bloody hell
Fake blood is one of the most popular Halloween additions, but it's famously a nightmare to get out of clothes.
If you catch a stain quickly, try scrubbing at it with baby wipes. More stubborn stains may need stain remover - or try rubbing it in lemon juice before sticking it in the wash.
When it comes to face paint, opt for water-based ones as they're easier to remove. With oil-based paints, try scraping at them with a knife before wash.
2. Hair raising stuff
Hair dyes and coloured sprays may seem like a fun idea, but they tend to leave behind stubborn stains.
Try rubbing alcohol or vinegar into the stain, with detergent, then leave it to soak away.
3. Stuck in the mud
Trick or treating can be a messy job, so there's a high chance of your kids getting covered in mud.
Resist the temptation to wipe at the stain, try scraping it away if it's dry instead.

4. Sweet idea
As any parent knows, the odd sticky stain on costumes is inevitable after a night of trick or treating.
Put an ice cube on the stain for an hour, before scraping the residue away with a blunt knife.
Then apply a stain remover and allow the costume to soak.
Toffee apple stains can be harder to clean away. Don't wipe at the caramel, or it will sink deeper into the fabric.
Try dabbing at it with a damp cloth instead, then use a stain remover.
5. Carving out a plan
Pumpkin mess is another common problem at Halloween.
If you get any on your clothes or carpets, immediately blot it with a damp cloth. Then wash properly with warm water and stain remover.

6. Pleased as punch
Many of us move onto dark tipples as autumn draws in, but you don't want red wine or party punch going anywhere near your carpets.
If you do encounter a spillage, start by blotting the alcohol with a cloth, until the liquid's all absorbed, then sponge it with cold water.
Earlier this week, an expert claimed you should put your cutlery pointing DOWN in the dishwasher for the perfect clean – but do you agree?
