He advised his followers to look out for a 1999 penny and divert their attention to the back of the coin.

Look toward the letters "A" and "M" in the word "America" - if the two letters are not touching each other, it's called a Wide AM.

The 1958 Philadelphia penny sold for so much because it was a double die coin, which refers to an error that occurs during the striking process.

Metal pieces or coin dies are used to imprint a coin's design by striking the coin multiple times to embed the image and text.

I found an 'odd' penny in my grandfather's coins worth $211,000 - but you need to grab a magnet to check if it's fake

When a coin die is misaligned, the letters, numbers, and images get marked twice in slightly different places.

This was the case with the 1958 penny, which featured the doubling on the coin's obverse, or front side.

It can be quickly spotted on the letters in the word "Liberty" and on the motto "In God We Trust."

This particular penny sold from the auction Stacks Bowers for a whopping $336,000.

While the double die is the primary reason behind the coin's worth, its grade also played a role.

It received a grade of MS-64 RD from the Professional Coin Grading Services.

The RD grade generally refers to a coin's reddish coloring, and coins receive this grade if they contain enough of their original red coloring.

However, the term can also indicate the state of a penny - normally signifying that a coin is in Mint State condition.
