Spread the love Lauren Chapin (born May 23, 1945 in Los Angeles, California) is an American former child actor who is best known for her portrayal as “Kathy Anderson” (nicknamed “Kitten”) in the television series Father Knows Best, which aired from 1954 to 1960. Chapin won five Junior Emmy Awards for Best Child Actress. Robert Young, Jane Wyatt, Elinor Donahue, and Billy Gray were among her co-stars in the series.
Chapin had a difficult upbringing before, during, and after the show’s run. Her father assaulted her sexually, and her mother struggled with alcoholism. Chapin married at 16, divorced at 18, became a drug addict, resorted to prostitution to support her habit, and was committed to a mental hospital after attempting suicide when Father Knows Best was cancelled. Chapin came to Christianity in 1979 as a result of her difficulties, and she credits it with saving her life. She now works as a manager for singers and actresses, as well as performing in a live interactive version of Father Knows Best on cruise ships, conventions, and other events. She and Andrew Collins co-wrote Father Does Know Best—The Lauren Chapin Story in 198Chapin is a Christian evangelist and pro-Israel enthusiast who is credentialed and ordained. Billy Chapin, a former child star, is her younger sister.
