Mike Krause dead: Beloved wrestling coach dies suddenly just weeks ahead of planned tour as fans praise 'legend'

A BELOVED youth wrestling coach has died weeks ahead of a planned tour.

Mike Krause, the head coach of the wrestling team at Detroit Catholic Central High School in Novi, Michigan, about 33 miles west of Detroit, died on Thursday.

"Mike's life was defined by his unwavering love for his family, and children, an unparalleled passion for wrestling, and a remarkable ability to connect with people," a GoFundMe read.

"He was known as 'Coach Krause' to so many as he was a mentor, a motivator, and a friend to tens of thousands of young men and women across our nation, including our beloved Shamrocks.

"He brought the head each and every day."

The post continued: "Coach Krause's intensity and infectious energy were legendary, and his ability to deliver life-changing messages to kids was nothing short of extraordinary.

"Krause made a lasting impact on the lives of so many, shaping not just wrestlers but also confident, resilient individuals.

"Mike's legacy will continue to inspire us all, reminding us of the power of mentorship and the difference one person can make in the lives of others."

A cause of death was not immediately revealed.

Krause's death came weeks after he was set to appear at Sutherland, Nebraska's Youth Wrestling showcase from November 3 to 5.

A prestigious wrestling coach, Krause's career saw him working with hundreds of aspiring youth athletes, whom he molded into champions.

Krause's death rocked the tight-knit wrestling community he led.

One of Krause's former wrestling athletes shared on X, previously known as Twitter: "Really gonna miss Coach Mike Krause.

"I filled a whole notebook with his sayings, coaching cues etc. He gave me permission to be a coach who is dynamic and humorous., but still holds athletes (and parents) accountable."

ESPN sports broadcaster Shane Sparks shared: "So sad to learn of the passing of coaching LEGEND Mike Trause.

"That guy was all that was right in youth wrestling. Man will the world miss that passion and energy.

"He is gone to soon, but Mike made a huge impact during his time here. My sympathies to his family & friends."

Krause is survived by his wife, Beth, and their four children, Andrew, Bella, Jake, and Eva.
