My boyfriend never gets me presents, it’s so inconsiderate - I’m dumping him if he doesn’t spoil me for Valentine’s Day

VALENTINE'S Day is all about love and spending time with your significant other (or others) - but a little surprise gift here or there definitely doesn't hurt.

But only with a few days left until February, 14th, for one woman this is a dreaded time, as she might leave her ''inconsiderate'' man.

The heartbroken girlfriend took it to the popular forum, Reddit, where she sought advice from fellow readers.

The 23-year-old explained that she had been dating her boyfriend, 26, for three months, in the course of which he hadn't bought her a single gift.

''For my birthday [...] he didn’t get me a card or present,'' she said, ''But bought my food/drinks and got me a psychic reading that I wanted for the both of us.''

However, this gesture still upset her: ''I like cards or hand made gifts and I told him that, along with saying I didn’t want the joint psychic reading bc it would get in my head but he insisted.''

The Redditor then said that Valentine's Day is also falls on their three-month anniversary, which she ''wouldn't usually celebrate but ya know''.

''The other day we were texting about Valentine’s Day plans and he was being weird with one word answers, and then took 16 hours to respond to tell me that he had gotten drunk to justify his responses.

''We communicated on the phone and I told him it hurt me that he took so long to apologize,'' she wrote in the post, adding that she had mentioned to him she enjoys celebrating the holiday.

''I still made him a thoughtful Valentine’s Day gift but all considered, if he doesn’t get me a gift, should I break up?

''I really don’t want to date someone who is inconsiderate.''

The woman explained that even if the card said just: ''Hey, I like you,'' that would ''mean the world'' to her.

''I’m a writer and that stuff means a lot to me and I like to hold onto it.''

However, despite her emotions and reasonings, many thought she was being unreasonable, with one comment reading: ''It's totally not worth breaking up over this.

''In a relationship is important to directly communicate needs and expectations not only hint at them.

''Also hints can be confusing or not noticed and just mess up communication.

''I get that this doesn't sound romantic but actually it makes communication and relationships much better.''

A second person agreed, saying: '' I know you told him that you liked handmade gifts, but that early in a relationship, that might be too personal of a thing to expect.

''It's just crazy to me to just break up with someone over not getting you a gift this early in a relationship, without stating you expected a gift outside of him taking you to dinner.''

A little more harsh view was: ''You probably should break up with him.

''Who wants to date anyone who decides the future of their relationship by if they get gifts or not at three months/ Valentine’s Day.''
