Sam’s Club will close all US stores for a day in just weeks following Walmart & shoppers will have to switch up plans

SAM’S Club has announced a major change to its regular shopping schedule, which will force shoppers to adjust their retail habits.

The wholesaler will soon shut down all its US stores for just one day.

Shoppers looking to make last-minute Thanksgiving day purchases will have to look elsewhere as the retailer will fully close on Thursday, November 23.

Sam’s Club only closes its stores on four days each year: Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.

The membership-only wholesaler will reopen for shoppers on Black Friday.

Holiday shopping hours will begin on November 22, which means its stores will stay open until 8pm for seven days a week, and not just on weekdays.

These festive hours will end on December 23 and stores will close at 6pm on Christmas Eve.

The decision to close for Thanksgiving has followed recent steps that its owner and operator Walmart had taken.

The U.S. Sun previously reported that Walmart will close thousands of stores for the fourth Turkey Day in a row.

Josh Furner, the CEO of Walmart US, shared the news in a social media post.

Furner said: “Thanksgiving is such a special day during a very busy season.

“We want you to spend that day at home with family and loved ones.

“We all have so much to be thankful for this year. I’m especially thankful for the opportunity to work with all of you.”

Several other large retailers have also announced they will close on Turkey Day.

Target will shut its stores again this year following a promise from its CEO Brian Cornell.

The policy was introduced as a temporary measure in 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic, but has now become permanent following a good response from staff.

Cornell said: “Several times, I heard how thankful they were that our stores would once again be closed on Thanksgiving.

“You don't have to wonder whether this is the last Thanksgiving you'll spend with family and friends for a while because Thanksgiving store hours are one thing we won't 'get back to' when the pandemic finally subsides.”
