One experiment revealed that ants can be easily kept away with one $6 cleaning product – Comet Cleaner.
This experiment was designed to discover which cleaner would provide a chemical barrier that ants wouldn't be able to cross.
Four different household cleaning products were tested extensively, including Comet, Pinesol, a 50/50 mixture of bleach and water, and 409 multipurpose cleaner.
They poured each cleaner into a spray bottle and sprayed them in a line across a doorway.

According to the experiment, "It was concluded that Comet was the most effective."
Unlike the others, only four ants crossed the Comet line throughout the three-day experiment, coming out on top.
This is also a much cheaper alternative to ant repellants – and you can find it on Amazon for just $6.
The second most effective cleaner was Pinesol.
