TODAY has been forced to bring in a fan-favorite replacement host with half the anchors missing during a recent episode.
Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones were nowhere to be found on the newest Today Show broadcast.

That meant a replacement was brought in for the day.
Jacob Soboroff appeared on the show to cover for the missing hosts.
That left Jacob, Al Roker, and Dylan Dreyer to handle the show.
According to Al, Craig is currently "off on assignment."

He also mentioned that Sheinelle is just "off," but didn't say when she would be back.
Sheinelle had also been away from the show on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
It's unclear whether either host will return for Friday's episode.
MAD MELVIN
Recently, Craig lost his cool while tenderizing a chicken cutlet live on air.

Restaurant owner Erin French joined the Today Show and Craig during a recent episode to show the team how to make two of her signature dishes.
Erin and Craig were going to make crispy chicken cutlets and salad from her cookbook Big Heart, Little Stove.
She noted that anyone making her chicken cutlet recipe could buy a cutlet or make their own.
"If you want to make your own cutlets, you can take out a little aggression if you had a hard work day and just go for it!," Erin told Craig after handing him a rolling pin.
The Today Show host started slamming the rolling pin into the chicken.
He joked, "I don't know why I'm making that face, by the way."
He joked that he had "beaten it up a little bit" after a while before continuing the cooking segment.
Craig then slammed the pin a few more times, apparently having lost his cool for a few minutes.
He and Erin continued working on the recipe together afterward.
CUT IT OUT!
Craig wielded a butcher knife that had his co-hosts concerned on another episode of the Today Show.
The host, 44, sparked a bit of concern as he wandered down the halls of the morning show’s offices while carrying a knife.
Craig shared a behind-the-scenes video on Instagram of him treating his co-stars to pieces of cake.
The clip began with the Today host holding up the full dessert with a giant knife stuck right in the middle, looking like a dagger.
He explained to the camera: “Craig Melvin here, with Caroline’s Cakes from South Carolina.
“It’s Wednesday Cake Day here at the Today Show. I’m gonna surprise some folks with a little slice of heaven.”
As he walked around, Craig held the cake with one hand and cut slices for his colleagues with the other.
The balancing act continued as he used one hand to hold the knife’s surface as the cake piece atop it in order to plate the dessert.
In the caption, he wrote: “Nothing makes people happy like cake!”
CUTTING MOMENTS
Katie Stilo, a culinary producer and food stylist at Today, wasn’t happy with the scene unfolding, though.
Concerned, she told her co-star: “Craig - the knife in the middle is a little violent looking!”
After realizing the difficulty of the dangerous act, correspondent Vicky Nguyen applauded the host, commenting: “I love this so much - also your cake-cutting on the go skills are impressive.”
Craig replied: “Thank you, Vicky!!!”
Meanwhile, Arianna G. Davis, the editorial director at Today Show Digital, teasingly asked: “So you just happened to skip my office huh?”
Earlier this week, Craig also got a bit vicious, when he accidentally broke the arm of Lewis, a large Halloween pumpkin character decoration.
