On April 27, 2023, it was announced that John King will be stepping down from Inside Politics to work on a new assignment for CNN.
According to the network, King's newest gig, which he requested, will focus on voters in battleground states for the 2024 presidential election.
King said in a statement: "This is my ‘back to the future’ dream assignment. It is my tenth presidential cycle and, given the stakes, I felt it was time to get back to my roots reporting across the country."
Taking over his spot as the Inside Politics anchor will be King's ex-wife, Dana Bash.
Bash is excited to take over King's role saying: "After nearly 30 years at CNN covering campaigns, Capitol Hill and the White House, I am excited to helm a program devoted to the politics that impact Americans’ lives.

The journalist has three children - Jonah, Hannah, and Noah.
King's first wife Jean Mackie is the mother to Noah and Hannah.
