Who was Tim Wakefield?

Tim Wakefield was a former professional baseball player born on August 2, 1966, in Melbourne, Florida.

He started his professional career with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1992, however, the famed pitcher made his most notable achievements playing for the Boston Red Sox between 1995 and 2011.

Throughout his time with the Red Sox, Wakefield won the Roberto Clemente Award in 2010, was a two-time World Series Champion, and was inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2016.

Wakefield went on to work for the Red Sox broadcast network, NESN, after retiring.

Who is Tim Wakefield's wife, Stacy?

Wakefield met his wife Stacy in 2000 and the two began dating the following.

They later tied the knot on November 9, 2002.

Stacy worked closely with the Wakefield Warriors — an organization that helps children at the Franciscan Hospital for Children.

Since the two have been together, the couple has welcomed two children.

Their son Trevor was born in 2004 followed by the birth of their daughter Brianna in 2005.

Five months after her husband's untimely death, the Boston Red Sox released a statement saying Stacy, too, passed away.

According to the statement on NBC 10 Boston, Stacy was battling pancreatic cancer.

"It is with deep sadness that we share that our beloved mother, daughter, sister, niece, and aunt, Stacy, passed away today at her home in Massachusetts," the statement read.

"She was surrounded by her family and dear friends, as well as her wonderful caretakers and nurses. The loss is unimaginable, especially in the wake of losing Tim just under five months ago. Our hearts are beyond broken.

"We will remember Stacy as a strong, loving, thoughtful and kind person, who was as down-to-earth as they come. We feel so lucky to have had her in our lives, and we take comfort in the fact that she will be reunited with Tim, the love of her life."

What happened to Tim Wakefield?

On September 27, 2023, Wakefield's former teammate Curt Schilling revealed the Florida native was diagnosed with brain cancer on his podcast The Curt Schilling Baseball Show.

Additionally, he revealed Stacy is also battling pancreatic cancer.

While Schilling was the first to share the news, both the Wakefields and the Red Sox revealed he broke the news without their permission.

In a statement released by the organization, the Red Sox said: "We are aware of the statements and inquiries about the health of Tim and Stacy Wakefield.

"Unfortunately, this information has been shared publicly without their permission. Their health is a deeply personal matter they intended to keep private as they navigate treatment and work to tackle this disease."

They concluded the statement by saying that the Wakefields "respectfully ask for privacy at this time."

The Red Sox also broke the news of Wakefield's death on October 1, 2023, in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter.

"Our hearts are broken with the loss of Tim Wakefield," the statement read.
