One Walmart shopper took to X, formerly Twitter, to express her fury at the checks after visiting self-checkout.
"Why is it only WALMART got people at the door harassing them to see receipts?" X user @Lil_Miss_Wonder asked.
While other retailers also use receipt checks, some like Costco and Sam's Club have them written into their membership contracts.
However other retailers like Walmart and Target do not have customers agree to such checks.

"They shouldn’t do it anywhere!!!!" @Lil_Miss_Wonder said before highlighting a bizarre self-checkout option that makes receipt checks pointless.
"Maybe Sam's Club or Costco or them outlet places but harassing me at the door over the s*** I paid for is crazy...
"Plus Walmart give you the option of 'no receipt' so why they even asking now at all?"
Another shopper revealed how she attempted to avoid receipt checks by using this "no receipt" option.

"I'm gonna buy something on purpose and not ask for a receipt," TikToker Ebie (@ebbieho) said a video.
She scanned their items, paying $110 and then selected to have their receipt sent to their phone rather than be printed out.
‘Just keep walking,’ say Walmart shoppers to receipt check haters as 100s of customers agree they’re ‘not obligated’"We did it on purpose so let's see what she says," Ebie told viewers as she left the store without being stopped.
"We wanted to say 'we didn't get one sorry and you can't look in our phone,'" she explained before adding, "That didn't work."
Regardless of if this self-checkout option can help shoppers avoid receipt checks, @Lil_Miss_Wonder argued that there is a simple solution for retailers concerned about theft at self-checkout.
"Yall that worried, RING EVERYONE UP YASELVES," she said.
"I ain’t paid to do it myself. I ain’t trained to do it myself. Can’t be mad when s*** get rang up wrong."
Walmart is even losing customers to its rivals over the checks with one former customer saying that they now go to Kroger.
"I prefer Kroger over Walmart for groceries. I don’t need nobody stopping me to check my receipt when I'm trying to leave," a user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"@Walmart lost a customer yesterday just because employees wanted to falsely accuse me, and my fiance of stealing when we walked into the damn store with a receipt," another shopper wrote.
The company responded to the shopper via a post on X saying that it would investigate their complaint.
